The next time you go for a Big Mac and shake, don’t look at the guy handing you your order as someone with another, “real,” job on the side or a slacker doomed to perpetual limbo asking if you want fries with the burger. The land of the Golden Arches also has something called the McDonald’s USA National Employee Scholarship Program. Employees, particularly young ones, can get up to $5,000 a year for college, online or on campus. Work for the company for four months and commit to 15 work hours a week to apply. While this type of aid is work-specific, other types like Pell grants for college are not.

The need for Physician’s Assistants has reached extreme proportions. It’s become so acute many PA’s often work for two different places, and no one is complaining. The salaries are also extremely high for a person who can enter the work force with just a two-year degree and certification, often averaging $75,000 a year (per job) with excellent benefits. Because of this high demand, there are increasing pell grant opportunities for this entering the field.
At the same time, many do not know of these financial aids and the recession is doing a lot to hold many potential PA’s from enrolling. Many kids out of high school think twice when they balance four years of school against as much as a decade paying off student loans.

President Obama’s Recovery Act in 2009 is as much about education as it is about jobs. Our nation’s chief executive understands that to upgrade a person’s salary one should upgrade the person’s education. $225 billion of the Act is dedicated to contracts, grants and loans and $500 million of that is targeted to online degrees. The reason Obama has made this money, including college loans, available is as at least a partial cure to the high drop out rate on-campus universities endure.

Every serviceman knows there will come a day when it’s time to leave the Armed Forces and return to civilian life. Another thing the Armed Forces know is even a basic non-comm needs to know more than just how to fire a gun and build a fox hole. As such, every U.S. military base throughout the world has set up what are simply called “education centers” for their soldiers. These facilities allow its personnel to advance their education while still on active duty.

A “perk” is usually defined as a side benefit one normally doesn’t associate with taking on a job or task. Take going for an online degree over going on campus. They are sometime subtle things, sometimes bona fide exciting. Here are five of these perks that just might make you want to plug in and learn something that will have life long benefits.
